The Zamfara State Government has intensified efforts to contain banditry activities following the gruesome attack on Gwargwabe village in Nahuche District of Bungudu Local Government Area which claimed lives and properties.
A press statement issued by the Director General, media and communication, Nuhu Salihu Anka, revealed that
the incident occurred last Thursday when armed bandits invaded the village, burnt homes and food storage facilities and killed some residents. Four persons—three men and one woman—were burnt to death, while livestock and other valuables were destroyed.
The statement further revealed that the attack followed a similar assault two days earlier, during which three additional lives were lost, raising the death toll to seven within a short period.
Governor Dauda Lawal, represented by his Deputy, Malami Mani Mummuni, led a government delegation to Gwargwabe to attend the funeral prayers and burial rites of the victims. The Deputy Governor conveyed the Governor’s condolences to the bereaved families and sympathised with the entire community over the tragic loss.
He assured residents that the State Government remains resolute in confronting insecurity and will continue to deploy all lawful means to protect lives and property across Zamfara State. While calling on the people to remain steadfast and prayerful.
During the visit, the Matawallen Bukkuyum announced government’s approval for the establishment of a military base in Gwargwabe, describing it as a proactive step to enhance security coverage and deter further criminal activities. He urged community members to work closely with security agencies by sharing credible information and maintaining unity.
On behalf of the Zamfara State Government, special prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for fortitude for their families. To provide immediate relief, the state government distributed Hundred bags (100) of assorted food items and Ten million Naira (₦10 million) to assist victims and ease the humanitarian impact of the attacks.
The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government, Alhaji Nura, and other top government officials.
