Zamfara Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA) has empower 114 women and Six women groups with farm implement in Zamfara
The NAWIA State Chairperson, Hajiya Shemau Nalado distribute the empowerment items to women farmers at an event to commemorate International Day of Food Bumper Harvest which held in Gusau on Thursday.
Nalado said 70 women farmers were empowered with seedlings either of Rice or Soya being, Organic fertilizer, Herbicide and Insecticide.
Other 30 women were empowered on small and medium business that include beings cake and waina production, each of the beneficiary was given a half bag of Chalk cool 10kg of Rice or Beings and a litter of Cooking oil.
And for the six groups women farmers each were to received Sprayers, Water pump, Power tillers machine as well as seedlings.
She said the distributed items were accrued from the donations of government and other development partners that had been assisting the association at all the time.
She appreciate the growing numbers women in agriculture believing that registered members were now over 2000, while the unregistered can be around 5,000.
Nalado also expressed gratitude to the Wife of Zamfara State Governor, Hajjiya Hurriya Dauda for her tireless effort in promoting women empowerment and agricultural development.
Other bodies to acknowledged their support include, Zamfara Chambers of Commerce, ACRESAL, NG-CARES, LIPAN LP PRESS and Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC).
Presenting the packages to the beneficiaries the Wife of Zamfara Gov. Hajjiya Huriya Lawal said this year’s theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” calls for unity and cooperation among farmers, families and leaders to make healthy food accessible to all.
The First Lady represented by the Wife of Deputy Governor, Hajiya Suwaiba Mallam Mani said working with groups like the NAWIA would continued to ensure that women remain at the heart of agricultural progress in Zamfara.
“As we mark this special day, I urge all farmers especially our women farmers to keep working hard and never give up. You are the strength of our state and the foundation of our nation’s food security.
“Let us all work hand in hand as government, private sector, and communities make Zamfara State a shining example of food sufficiency, resilience, and hope for the entire nation”. She said.
