The Zamfara state Roads Traffic Agency, ZAROTA, has issued a stern warning to motorists, commercial drivers, tricyclists, motorcyclist and cyclists who deliberately drive against the flow of traffic (popularly known as one way driving) on roads across the state to desist immediately or face arrest and prosecution.
A press statement issued by the public relations officer of the agency, Saleh Ibrahim indicated that the Commandant/Chief Executive officer of the agency, M.B. Musa lamented
the rising incidents of traffic rules violations by road users who unlawfully endanger their own lives, the lives of other road users,and public safety.
“Driving against traffic rules constitutes a gross violations of traffic regulation and remains a major cause of road crashes, injuries,loss of live and damage to property.” the statement added.
The commandant and chief executive officer of zamfara road traffic agency ZAROTA, Muhammad Bello Musa Ataka Gusau ritered has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Officers of the agency to intensify enforcement operations across the state and ensure the arrest and judicious prosecution of offenders.
“Members of the public are advised to strictly obey traffic laws, respect road signs,and conduct themselves responsibly while using the roads.”
Commandant Muhammad Bello Musa emphasised that no individual or category of road users is above the law, and anyone found violating traffic regulations will be dealt with in accordance with stipulated legal provisions.
Parents, transport unions,fleet operators and community leaders were therefore urged by the agency to caution their members and wards against this dangerous and unlawful practice.
“ZAROTA remained committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and maintaining peace and order on all highways and streets across the state,” the statement concluded.
