In its efforts to revamp the education sector, the Zamfara State government has said that adequate arrangements are in top gear to improve the quality and welfare of teachers across the state.
This was made known to newsmen in Gusau, by the commissioner of education, science and technology, Malan Wadatau Madawaki in an interview in his office in Gusau.
According to the commissioner, education is the backbone of development in any society, without quality education in any given society, there won’t be any development and even if there is development it’s not going to be as expected in that society.
He said, based on this, the state government under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal has mapped out some incentives to teachers, which are going to be effective very soon.
“Our government plans are to introduce new minimum wage to Zamfara teachers, in such a way that many people may wish to come back to teaching profession, we wil also pay professional allowances to science teachers.
“We will also pay hardship allowance to teachers that are teaching in rural areas, and all the entitlements of teachers in the state would be given to them.
“Similarly, we are now working hard to partner with NIPA, NTI, UBEC, and some International organisation to send our teachers for training and retraining, to serve as motivation to them for effective service delivery
In a related development, the commissioner of education informed the general public that, his ministry has identified twenty boarding schools, which very soon would be open to commence activities, as according to him they have already sent a letter to security agencies seeking their advice on the affected schools.
He said, they are waiting for the advice, as soon as the security advice is positive the schools would be open soon, adding that they have changed the secondary schools system by introducing skills acquisition to students so that even after the completion of the final exam they will have something doing.
