The Government of Zamfara State, in collaboration with the L-PRES Project, has officially launched an Anthrax Vaccination Campaign aimed at protecting livestock and preventing the spread of anthrax in the region. The flag-off ceremony took place on Saturday, 21st December 2024, in Kuraje Village, along Kotorkoshi Road, and was graced by a distinguished gathering of government officials, health professionals, and community leaders.
The Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mallam Mani Mallam Muminu, who represented the state government at the event, expressed his full support for the vaccination campaign. In his address, the Deputy Governor emphasized the critical importance of protecting the state’s livestock population, which forms the backbone of its agricultural economy. He called on all farmers and livestock owners in the state to cooperate with the vaccination teams and ensure that all their animals are vaccinated.
He reiterated the state state government commitment in ensuring support to livestock farmers to boast food security and peaceful coexistence among various communities in the state.
The commissioner for Agriculture Hon Ya u Haruna Gamji who highlighted the government ongoing efforts to bolster the livestock sector in the state. He underscore the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and the L-PRES project which have helped strengthen the veterinary services and improve Animal heath across the state.
The State coordinator L – PRES project Nasiru Mohammed delivered his speech reiterating the significance of the campaign in safeguarding public heath .He commended the State government in providing the needed support for the vaccination drive. He urged all stakeholders to actively support the initiative and ensure its success.
He disclosed that, various teams will be deployed across the state to ensure that no community is left behind.
The Anthrax campaign is aimed at vaccinating livestock in a bid to reduce the incidence of the disease in the region.
