The Zamfara state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists has called on the state government to look into the problems of Legacy News paper with a view of reviving paper.
This was contain in a communique issued at the end of the congress meeting held at the union secretariat Gusau.sighed by Chairman comrade Ibrahim Maizare and the secretary Ibrahim Gada
Congress called on the Zamfara State Government to revive the state-owned Legacy Newspapers, which has remained inactive for several time despite having qualified personnel, and to revitalize other state-owned media organizations to enhance public information dissemination.
Congress urged the State Government to support farmers by providing fertilizers and other agricultural inputs for the 2026 wet season farming, give due attention to the welfare of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), strengthen security around hotels and other public facilities, establish an effective communication channel for timely security information to the public, and review the activities of ZARAOTA for greater efficiency and optimal service delivery.
Congress further appealed to the Government to ensure regular environmental sanitation across the state and increase access to potable water through the construction of boreholes in strategic communities.
Congress called on security agencies to intensify the fight against banditry by adopting more proactive and offensive strategies to restore lasting peace and security across Zamfara State.
. Congress directed all members who are yet to complete their registration to do so without delay to facilitate the production and distribution of the new NUJ identity cards.
Congress urged journalists to continue to uphold the ethics, values, and professional standards of the journalism profession in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
Congress commended the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal for its sustained support to the media industry, particularly the sponsorship of journalists to the FRCN National Academy, Lagos, and the NTA Television College, Jos, on two consecutive occasions for professional capacity-building, as well as the ongoing construction of a modern and befitting NUJ
The chairman also informed Congress that the Zamfara State Government had approved sponsorship of the forthcoming Security Summit of the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to be hosted in Zamfara State by the National Secretariat of the NUJ. He called on members to give the summit their maximum support to ensure its success.
The Congress reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to professionalism, press freedom, members’ welfare, ethical journalism, and constructive collaboration with government and other stakeholders in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development in Zamfara State and Nigeria as a whole.
