The state Government has identified Cattle rustling as one of the devastating aspects of insecurity bedeviling the state.
This was stated by the Secretary to the state Government, Mal. Abubakar M Nakwada, during the inauguration of a Committee to manage the recovered rustled animals and return same to the rightful owners.
Mal. Abubakar M Nakwada said, the Committee was reconstituted by the State Governor, Dauda Lawal, in order to ensure effective management of the recovered rustled animals.
According to him, thousands of cattle, sheep, and goats were rustled within the last ten years of banditry in the state.
He said, Security operatives usually intercept and confiscate the rustled animals from bandits and hand them over to the Government, Saying it is mandatory for the Government to take over and manage the animals in order to ensure that they were returned to their rightful owners.
A press release issued by the Press Secretary to the SSG, Nasiru Shehu Aula Dabbakal said
Malam Abubakar M Nakwada, enumerated the terms of reference of the committee that included, Custoday and managing the recovered rustled animals and handing Over to the rightful owners after following all due process of it’s responsibilities.
Others were, to Seek Consent of the office of the Secretary to the state Government when there is need for the auction of the animals that over stayed at the Committee’s Custoday in line with the stipulated period of time.
The Committee has Twenty Members where Shiek Sa,idu Aliyu Mai kwano will serve as chairman, Director Administration, Ministry Of internal Security and Home Affairs, Secretary as well as representation from various places.
In a remarks, State Commissioner for internal security and Home Affairs, Ambassador Captain Abubakar mai Riga Rtd, Called on the state Government to look into the responsibilities of assisting the Committee to work deligently and effectively.
