From Abba Kabara, Gusau.
For the first time in the history of political campaigns in Zamfara state, the All Peoples Congress (APC) became a phase setter by organising a thugs- free mega rally in the state.
Our correspondent who witnessed the event tagged ‘one million-man rally’ held at the premises of the government house Gusau, observed that throughout the event that lasted for hours, there were evidently no elements of weapons of violence during the rally.
The rally, which was attended by thousands of party supporters and others, was conducted hitch-free without sustaining injury as often characterised with such political rallies.
It is recalled that about three months ago, the state government inaugurated a special force, ‘anti-thuggery sguad’ under the chairmanship of a retired soldier Bello Bakyasuwa, charged with the responsibility of checking the proliferation and activities of thugs in any political activities across the state.
With this development, observers believe that the measure if maintained, will mark the beginning for the emergence of free and fair elections in the state.
In his speech at the occasion, the state commissioner for commerce and industry Hon. Yazid Danfulani who spoke on behalf of the state APC Youth leader, disclosed that the entire youth organisations in the state have collectively donated a sum of Two hundred million(N200m) Naira to support governor Matawalle’s campaign for the second tenure.
The two hundred million naira cheque was received by the state deputy governor Alhaji Sani Hassan Nasiha Gusau.
Similarly, the state commissioner for finance Hon. Safiyanu Yuguda, who represented the national youth leader, enjoins the youths in the state to ensure that they acquire their PVC as an only credential that will qualify them to go for elections.
