The Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, Alh. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Marafan Sokoto) has widened the scope of his intervention in the education sector in Zamfara State under his Scholarship Initiative.
Under the new innovation, 50 additional Students drawn from the 14 Local Government Areas of the State have been given a full Scholarship to study different undergraduate Courses cutting across various disciplines in Al-istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State.
This was in addition to another 100 Candidates sponsored by the Initiative to study health related courses in Green Garden School of Health Technology, Abarma area, Gusau, Zamfara State.
Chairman of the Scholarship Initiative, Senator Tijjani Yahaya (Tafidan Ƙaura) who spoke about the development on behalf of the initiator of the Scholarship program while handing over the 50 Students to the management of Al-istiqama University in Sumaila, Kano State on Tuesday, 25/02/2025 said the idea to widen the scope of the initiative was borne out of the initiator’s genuine desire to encourage the vulnerable indigenes to realise their potentials despite their financial constraint.
Senator Tijjani Yahaya who was represented by the Secretary of the Initiative, Professor Sha’aya Shehu (Sarkin Rafin Mafara) explained that the choice of Al-istiqama University, Sumaila and the Green Garden School of Health Technology, Gusau for the sponsorship was carefully done to further boost the initiative mandate so that more areas of human endeavours including the Middle level manpower in the health sector of the State will be positively impacted when the students graduated.
Addressing the 50 Sponsored Students before handing them over to the Management of the University, Professor Sha’aya Shehu assured them that registration/tuition, accommodation fees and all other miscellaneous were covered by the Scholarship and the Students will be receiving a monthly stipend to further encourage them.
He admonished them to be good Ambassadors of Zamfara State and make the initiator of the program and their parents very proud throughout their stay in the University in both character and learning.
Responding on behalf of the Students, Naziru Malam Hassan Gummi Praised Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Marafan Sokoto) for rekindling their dashed hope of furthering their education up to tertiary level.
A female Student of the contingent, Aisha Sa’idu not only thanked the initiator of the Scholarship program for coming to their aid at the right time but also disclosed their resolve to reciprocate this great gesture in both their academic and moral conduct.
Receiving the Students on behalf of the Management of the University, its Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Muhammad Ƙofa expressed their gratitude to Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar for partnering with them in this noble course and assured him of their readiness to give in their best in the academic and moral upbringing of the sponsored students.
Professor Ƙofa explained that the Private University which came on board in 2021 and currently has 34 Nigerian Universities Commission, NUC accredited courses stands out amongst its contemporaries in the Country because of its zero tolerance on immorality while instilling quality academic stuff in the Students before their graduation.
The Acting Vice Chancellor said it was against this backdrop that the University made Arabic Language as mandatory for all the Students irrespective of their Courses while learning the Glorious Qur’an is also institutionalised.
Officials of the Initiative, Professor Sha’aya Shehu (Sarkin Rafin Mafara), Hon. Abubakar Aliyu (Ɗanmadamin Maradun), Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad (Ɗanmadamin Birnin Magaji) and its Head of Administration, Mal. Ismail Muhammad Amin who took the Students to the University were later conducted round the University’s facilities before the signing of the memorandum of understanding MOU between the two Parties.
It’s worth noting that the 150 Sponsored Students in Al-istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State and Green Garden School of Health Technology, Gusau, Zamfara State are in addition to 1,700 earlier Sponsored by the Initiative in 16 Public Universities across North West Geo Political Zone of Nigeria under 2024/2025 Academic Session.
