Since assuming office, His Excellency Governor Dauda lawal has prioritized an ambitious overhaul of Zamfara’s ailing education sector, with Hon.wadatau Madawaki steering it’s implementation as commissioner of Education. Their collaboration has already yielded transformative results across infrastructures, human resources, student rights and learning environments
In November 2023, Governor lawal officially declared a state of emergency in the education sector, signalling a break from the status quo. This bold move reset priorities and unblocked political will for radical reforms
Under the emergency declaration, the administration launched widespread renovation of school facilities. Reports indicates that 245 schools across all the 14 local governments have been upgraded, furnished with 9,542 two-seater desks, 619 teachers tables, and 926 chairs
Governor lawal also approved recruitment of 2000 teachers to fill critical gaps and revitalise learning spaces
Beyond State resources, Governor lawal has made personal and institutional contributions. He donated a three storey building and a new bus to Ahmadu Bello University, his Alma-mata
He also awarded full scholarships to 30 gifted Zamfara students admitted to the Federal Government Academy, Suleja shows his commitment to nurturing top talent
Another impactful achievements is clearing the backlog owed to WAEC, NECO and other examination bodies, with prior student results withheld due to unpaid fees by past administrations in the state
Governor lawal s intervention unlocked thousands of examination outcomes, restoring students academic progress
More so, the administration has focused on enriching the learning experience by equipping renovated schools with furniture, reinforcing school-university partnerships notably with FCET , Gusau and renewed teacher training, education delivery is steadily improving
The Madawaki factor and partnership has been the operational backbone of the governor’s vision. Under his leadership, the ministrie’s machinery has been aligned to law and policy
The settlement of exams fees, the teacher recruitment initiatives and improvements of infrastructure reflect coordination between the Governor’s directive and the commissioner’s stewardship. His experience as an educationist and administrative skill are central to turning plans into impact
In sum, the lawal -Madawaki tandem is reshaping Zamfara’s educational landscape. What began as emergency declaration is evolving into sustainable change more schools, better teachers, open pathways for students, and rescue mission for the future.
