The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has announced that it will closely monitor how the state government utilizes the N3 billion released by the federal government to address flood disasters in the state.
Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, Chairman of the party told Newsmen in Kano on Sunday that the party will ensure transparency in the use of the funds.
Citing concerns over the diversion of 130 trucks of food allocated to the state for selfish interests.
Abbas, said the Federal Government was committed to reducing hunger in the country, but the NNPP government in Kano was frustrating these efforts.
He said that President Bola Tinubu has approved several palliative measures for the poor households and vulnerable individuals, but those assigned to distribute them were allegedly diverting the resources.
Abbas cited instances of senior NNPP government officials being allegedly involved in the diversion of palliatives.
He cited the instance of the Managing Director of the State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), Dr Tukur Dayyabu Minjibir, who was found allegedly selling grains belonging to the state government.
Abbas emphasized that the party will not allow a repeat of such incidents, ensuring that the funds are used for their intended purpose.
He noted that the federal government has constituted a committee, led by Deputy Senate President Sen. Barau Jibril, to oversee the equal distribution of palliatives in the state.
The APC chairman reiterated the party’s commitment to preventing the diversion of funds meant for the people of Kano for political reasons, ensuring that the relief funds are used to benefit those affected by the flood disaster.
