The leadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside the Presidency, have officially announced the formation of the 2027 Tinubu/Shettima Re-election Campaign Council. Notably, this Council comprises eminent personalities of proven integrity, with Senator Abdul Aziz Abubakar Yari, (Marafan Sokoto), at the helm as its leader.
In view of this landmark development, as a committed party stakeholder and a proud Nigerian, it is imperative that I express my profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for this highly strategic decision.
I commend Mr. President for appointing a man of structure, a man of unmatched experience, and a leader of proven loyalty to spearhead this critical national assignment. This appointment clearly demonstrates his unwavering commitment to political inclusivity and competence.
To illustrate the immense capabilities that Senator Yari brings to the table in securing the victory of President Tinubu’s re-election, I wish to highlight the following core points:
1. Noble Heritage and Deep Discipline:
To fully appreciate why Senator Yari is the absolute right man for this job, it is necessary to look at the solid foundation that shaped his character.
Senator Yari was born into the respected family of the late Alh. Yari Abubakar, of blessed memory. The late Alh. Abubakar Yari was a humble yet responsible cabinet member of the Talata Mafara Emirate Council of Zamfara State. Senator Yari is therefore a proud descendant of the esteemed Kayayen Mafara family – a lineage renowned for its integrity, scholarship, community service, and deep-seated commitment to human development. The Kayayen Mafara name is synonymous with honesty, humility, and selfless service. These are the foundational values that Senator Yari grew up with.
From his formative years, his character was molded by a balanced blend of Islamic and Western education. He imbibed the strict discipline of truthfulness, respect, and community responsibility. Concurrently, his pursuit of Western education up to the MSc level at the University of Salford, exposed him to modern tenets of governance. This powerful combination shaped him into a leader defined by good character, deep faith, and practical wisdom.
1. Political Journey from the Grassroots to National Prominence:
Senator Yari’s political journey is an inspiring story of steady growth from the grassroots to the national stage. He did not stumble into politics by accident. He began his journey from the grassroots of Zamfara State, serving diligently as the State Secretary and subsequently as the State Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). As State Party Chairman, he masterminded and led the historic campaign that delivered the re-election of His Excellency, Senator Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura in 2003. That landmark victory announced him to the nation as a master organizer and a brilliant political strategist. He later rose to serve as the National Treasurer of the ANPP.
From those foundational years, his influence grew remarkably across Northern Nigeria and eventually resonated nationwide. He built enduring alliances, mentored emerging leaders, and earned the deep trust of ordinary citizens because he remained on the ground with the people.
His legislative service further deepened his national outlook. From 2007 to 2011, he served as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency. This legislative experience gave him firsthand insight into the diverse needs of Nigerians at the federal level.
1. Pillar of Political Strength and Governance:
As God Almighty will have it, Senator Yari stands today as an undeniable pillar of political strength in Zamfara, across Northern Nigeria, and indeed throughout the entire Federation. This is firmly attested to by his sterling track records in grassroots political strategy and governance.
Senator Yari has an intimate understanding of party dynamics, traditional institutions, and women and youth organizations. His network caught across all thirty-six states of the Federation. This is the exact organizational machinery that translates political goodwill into actual electoral victory.
We are all aware of his efforts, struggles, and commitments during the formation of the APC. As the then Governor of Zamfara State, he made the bold and risky decision to champion the establishment of the APC in Zamfara State. Operating as an opposition governor at the time, he was at the forefront of laying the rock-solid foundation for the party that currently governs Nigeria.
Today, as a distinguished Senator in the 10th Senate, Senator Yari is one of the foremost stakeholders who consolidate the undeniable gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda. It would therefore be an easy job for him to render effective leadership to the campaign council in securing a renewed mandate for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
I call upon all APC members, stakeholders, and indeed all well-meaning Nigerians who believe in sustainable democracy, progress and development to extend their maximum cooperation and support to the Campaign Council under Senator Yari.
With Senator Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari leading the charge as Director-General, we have no doubt that this Campaign Council will be disciplined, laser-focused, and will deliver a historic victory to Tinubu/Shettima ticket and the APC.
