Zamfara state Zakat and Endowment Board has assisted more than 301 orphans and less privileged persons with various welfare aids across the state to reduce the hardship among the society
This was disclosed by the Director Distribution, Malan Sani Abubakar Maradun during the distribution of the welfare assistance held at the board’s conference hall in Gusau.
According to him, over 301 persons have benefited with the assistance. They included persons with mental health problems, marriage and rent payment problems, business risks and breakdown problems, education, building, and debts problems, among others.
He further stated that, the board had paid N490,000 medical bill of a woman with cancer problem to facilitate her hospital treatment.
He assured the board’s readiness to receive complaints and indiscriminately assist people.
The Director also noted that the board had recieved many assistance requests but entertained 103 of them to start with for the benefit of less privileged and orphans in the state. He thanked the state Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal for appointing credible leaders for the board, because the measure helped in revitalizing the board’s function of assisting the needy effectively.
The chairman of the board, Sheikh Ahmad Umar ibn Kanoma, said the board was created purposely to assist orphans and less privileged people in urban and rural areas of the state. He added that the state government has approved deduction of certain percentage from government awarded contracts for the board to assist people with a view to reduce hardship among people.
Sheikh Kanoma stressed the need for philanthropists and well to do individuals to redouble their efforts and continue to give their zakkat and endowment to the board in order to assist orphans and less privileged in the state.
The Chairman also noted that the board don’t entertain favouritsm and was doing its work according to the teaching of Islamic religious injunction. He called on secretaries of Zakat committees of emirate councils to strive in Zakat and endowment collection and distribute it accordingly.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the board, Malan Habibu Muhammad Balarabe Zawiyya, called on Muslims ummah to continue praying for the success of the board and give out their Zakat to the board for distribution to less privileged in the state.
He also called on the government to monitor to ensure it’s doing its job according to the teaching of Islamic religious knowledge.
He also charged the beneficiaries to continue praying for the success Dr Dauda Lawal to enable him improve the welfare of orphans and less privileged in the state.
