The red cross society of Nigeria Zamfara State has empower 2000 women to produce nutritious food for their children.
This was disclosed by the chairman of zamfara state chapter of the red cross society of Nigeria comrade Ibrahim Bello Gusau at Magami in Gusau local government area during the launching of disaster risk reduction farming to rural women.
He said the red cross society of Nigeria Zamfara State in collaboration with the International development partners have decided to empower 2000 women across some local government in the state as a pilot scheme.
He further said, Zamfara State has been identified as a state with acute shortage of nutritious food therefore the need to empower rural women to produce nutritious food locally for the benefits of the the children.
Ibrahim Bello said the local governments chosen for the program are, Gusau, Bungudu, Birnin Magaji , Zurmi and Maradun where 400 women would be empowered with technics on how to produce nutritious food items locally.
He said the women world be provided with relevant seeds and farming tools to produce vegetables in their backyard.
He said careful study was conducted before arriving at the local governments.
He said the red cross society of Nigeria Zamfara State would soon embark on distribution economic trees free to rural women to boast their economic potentials .
Speaking at the event, the wife of the state governor Hajia Huraiya Dauda charged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items provided for the overall interest of the society.
Hajia Huraiya pleag to always carry women along in every government programs that are aim to improve the welfare of women and children.Hajia Huraiya Dauda spoke the commissioner of Agriculture.
