The family of the slain Magaji Lawali Yandoto who was brutally murdered last year allegedly by the former commandant, Zamfara state Community Protection Guards ZCPG, Col. Rabiu Yandoto Rtd, has appealed to Zamfara state governor Dauda Lawal to intervene on the matter for justice to prevail.
One of his Son, Anas Magaji Lawali made the call at a press conference in Gusau weekend.
According to him, the unconditional bail granted to the accused person Col. Rabiu Yandoto Rtd, without their consent by the court sitting in Gusau had brought serious uncertainty among the family whether justice could be done on the case.
He said, already a letter was written to the state governor through the state attorney general and commissioner of justice for his immediate intervention as promised earlier by the governor that justice must be done.
According to him, on the 12th day of August 2024, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police arrested and investigated the suspected killer Col. Rabiu Yandoto rtd.
He further stated that after concluding their investigation by the police, a prima facie evidence was established against Col. Yandoto, and he was presented before the Chief Magistrate Court (CMC) Gusau in which the court ordered his remand at the Gusau Correctional Centre.
” The court gave consequential orders to the Office of the Attorney General to arraign the defendant before a competent court to take his plea and stand trial within a stipulated period”.
He further hinted that the Office of the Attorney General failed and neglected to do so, resulting in the court granting the defendant’s bail application.
“Regrettably, since the grant of bail, no step or move has been taken by the state attorney general to prosecute the defendant that is why we need governor Dauda intervention”. He said
“We solicit the Zamfara state governor Dauda Lawal intervention in ensuring the prosecution of the defendant, if there is any case or answer before a competent court”. He said
According to him, Late Magaji Lawali left behind 23 children mainly under age, noting that life is becoming more difficult for them to bear his irreparable death .
” As I am talking now, we are 23 children of our late client father, out of which 21 are under age vulnerable children and since his brutal murder, life has became more unbearable and we need justice on this case”. He said
It could be recalled that on August last year, the operatives of Zamfara community protection guards CPC stormed the residence of Late in Yandoto town where he was detained in their office in Tsafe local government and dead after one day in their hand.
