Under two days after its presidential campaign rally in Zamfara state with its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, canvassing for support, the Labour Party’s candidates have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Labour Party’s candidates who crossed carpet to APC were received by Chairman of the 2023 Zamfara state Gubernotorial campaign council and former Governor of the state, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar at a well organized defection ceremony held at his residence in Talata Mafara.
According to a press release issued by the Media Assistant to the former governor,Abdulaziz Yari, Dahiru Sama’ila Mafara the principal defectors were the party’s Deputy Gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Sule Dansadau, three Senatorial candidates, Alhaji Yahaya Audu Mafara for the Zamfara West, Alhaji Sani Yusuf Danmasani for Central, and Engr Adamu Yakubu for the North Senatorial zones respectively.
Others were seven Candidates for House of Representatives and 14 out of the 19 state House of Assembly of the Labor Party in Zamfara state.
Speaking at the ceremony, the state chairman of APC, Alhaji Tukur Umar Danfulani, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Hassan Marafa Damri expressed delight over their resolve to join the APC, which he described as a big plus for the party.
Alhaji Hassan Marafa Damri emphasized that, all right thinking indigenes of Zamfara state must be concerned about peace and stability of the state under the leadership of the incumbent Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle and should therefore cooperate to move the state forward.
In his remarks shortly after receiving the decampees, the former Governor of Zamfara state, Hon. Abdulaziz Yari expressed happiness on their resolve to drop their political ambition and join the rulling APC in Zamfara state.
He assured them that APC is a political party for people of Zamfara state when considering its previous domination of power back from the defunct APP, ANPP and now APC.
Earlier in their declarative statements, the deputy Gubernatorial candidate, and Zamfara Central Senatorial Candidate who spoke on behalf of other Decampees said, they resolved to drop down their respective ambitions to support APC because of the current peace and stability followed after reconciliation between the former Governor Abdulaziz Yari and Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle.
They assured to mobilize all their supporters during election and vote for APC Candidates from top to bottom.
Among the important personalities who witness the ceremony are, Leader of A A Yari political movement, Hon. Lawal M Liman, Honourable Commissioner National Population Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Muttaka Rini, former Majority leader of Zamfara state House of Assembly, Hon. Isah Abdulmumin, and Talata Mafara North state House of Assembly candidate, Hon Aliyu Ango Kagara and Alhaji Umar Mohammed Bakura among many others.
