The Zamfara State Government has recorded significant progress in its ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, particularly among young people across the state. Through sponsoring many youths back to schools and providing others with empowerment opportunities to minimize juvenile delinquency.

Governor, Dauda Lawal made this known while addressing a security summit themed “Strengthening Campus Security and Addressing Concerns Related to Drug Abuse Within Our Institutions,” organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zamfara State Chapter. The event was held at the Federal College of Education, Gusau.
Governor Dauda Lawal who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Alhaji Tasi’u Musa Shinkafi, described drug abuse as a critical issue affecting youths across the country. He noted that substance abuse contributes significantly to insecurity, social misconduct, and criminal activities.
According to the Governor, the circulation and consumption of harmful drugs among young people have serious health implications, impair judgment, and expose users to long-term consequences that extend beyond their academic pursuits. He emphasized that the problem affects not only students but also families, educational institutions, and the broader community.
Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling the menace through collaboration with key stakeholders to develop sustainable and lasting solutions.
He further stated that the state government will continue working closely with relevant agencies to implement youth-focused programmes. These initiatives include skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support, sports engagement, and mentorship programmes aimed at channeling youthful energy into productive ventures.
The Governor reiterated his dedication to ensuring youth safety, development, and success, stressing continued support for education, discipline, and employment creation.
Governor Dauda Lawal urged students and young people across the state to remain focused on their goals, promote responsible behavior, encourage peer awareness, and engage constructively with authorities and government institutions.
