Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the reinstatement the allowances for 5,080 imams and deputy imams serving in all Jumu’ah mosques across Zamfara State, after a long period of suspension.
This significant development, which brings relief to thousands of families, was announced during a weekly religious preaching session in Gusau by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Hon. Sulaiman Adamu Gummi. The Commissioner was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Malam Garba Altine Dauran (MARAAFAN DAURAN), Dan madamin zurmi.
According to Hon. Gummi, the reinstatement of allowances follows the recommendation of a special committee assigned to review the matter. He explained that the decision reflects Governor Dauda Lawal’s strong commitment to fairness, justice, and the welfare of religious workers across the state.
“The reinstatement of these allowances is not just an act of goodwill, but a deliberate step to correct past injustices and restore the dignity of those whose entitlements were unjustly withheld,” Hon. Gummi stated through Malam Altine Dauran.
The Commissioner urged the imams and deputy imams to show appreciation through renewed dedication, discipline, and service to the community. He called on them to actively support the promotion of peace, unity, and spiritual growth across the state.
The decision has been widely welcomed by religious leaders, community stakeholders, and citizens, who see it as a sign of responsive leadership and a step towards strengthening trust in government.
Further administrative details regarding the disbursement of the reinstated allowances will be provided by the Office of the Head of Service.
