Thirty Inmates serving various
jail terms, as a result of committing different cases have been released on this year’s correctional center visit by the Zamfara state Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Isa Aliyu at Gusau correctional center.
Addressing the Inmates shortly after their freedom, the chief judge cautioned them to be extra careful and not commit any offence that will make them return back to prison.
According to her, anybody found wanting will definitely face the wrath of law, stressing the need for them to be good ambassadors of the state anywhere they found themselves.
Shading more light on this year’s correctional center visit, the Director litigation, Zamfara state High Court, Aisha Jibrin informed newsmen that, this year’s correctional center visit has commenced on Thursday last week and ended Thursday 23 October 2023
She said some of the released inmates were freed on health ground, and others were released as a result of failure from the ministry of justice and the police to produce their case files due to misplacement.
The Director added that some of the inmates spent six years in custody without trial, stressing that because their files could not be produced by police and ministry of justice, they have to be released.
The most dominant cases treated this year are capital offences, such as armed robbery, culpable homicide, kidnapping, misappropriation of funds and those obtaining money of self pretence.
Director Aisha Jibrin added that, few cases included rape, theft, and some on natural offences that is public disturbances among others.
