Zamfara state government has been urged to re-open boarding secondary schools and restore students’ feeding programme in all secondary schools in the state.
The appeal was made by the Amir, Muslims Students Society of Nigeria, MSSN, Zamfara state chapter, Dr Lawal Sa’adu during the annual Islamic Vocational Course, held at Gov’t Girls Arabic Secondary School, Gusau.
The Islamic Vocational Course, IVC, was normally conducted annually in the state to sensitise and refresh secondary schools students’ memories on temporal and spiritual issues affecting their lives. The educational retreat comprised male and female secondary schools students who spend one week studying Islamic Vocational Courses.
This year’s topic of the islamic intellectual event is, “Promoting Islamic Values in Addressing Socio- Economic Challenges in our Contemporary Society.”
According to the state MSS Amir, Dr Lawal Sa’adu, during the programme, some participants and audience complained and advised the state government to re- open boarding schools that were closed because of security challenges facing the state. He emphasized that the students’ feeding programme had significantly encouraged and boosted school attendance in the state.
He further appealed to Zamfara state government to relocate all the closed boarding schools to the affected local government headquarters to ensure safety and accountability.
He added that the move will give more opportunities to the youths to safely acquire more western education in the state.
He also used the medium and thanked the state government under leadership of Dauda Lawal for his commitment towards the improvement and revival of the educational sector of the state to comply with normal standards.
Dr Lawal Sa’adu also said that the present administration must be commended for offsetting WAEC, SSCE and Neco Examination debts. He described it as a welcome development in Zamfara state.
In his remarks, the State Universal Basic Education, SUBEB, Chairman, Professor Nasiru Garba Anka who was represented by Permanent Member 1, Professor Rabiatu Musa said the state government has renovated large number of primary and secondary schools in the state and adjusted teachers’ salary of N30,000 minimum wage to give special welfare to the teachers especially under the state universal basic education board SUBEB.
In his goodwill message, Associate Professor, Ahmad Muhammad Gusau, advised parents and guardians to intensify their efforts in the proper up bringing and instilling good moral behavior in their children for brighter future. He also charged them to keenly observe their children through monitoring their day to day activities.
