From Abdullahi Adamu Gusau
Zamfara state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Master Bakers and Caterers has lamented that over 150 bakeries across the state have shut down.
The Secretary of the association, Alhaji Habibu Abdullahi disclosed this to newsmen at a press conference held at Fadama Plaza in Gusau. He explained that the closure of the affected bakeries was due to the high cost of ingredients needed for production.
The association Secretary therefore appealed to the federal government to intervene and save the situation by drastically reducing inflation rate of essential commodities in the country.
According to him, due to the recent increase in the prices of essential commodities that included, flour, sugar, butter, and other necessary bread making ingredients, prices of bread were increased in the state and the country at large.
Alhaji Habibu Abdullahi Alfijir further stated that it became necessary for federal government to intervene in the issue of continuous price increase of essential commodities. He added that presently the price of flour increased to N43,000, sugar N62,500.
