The National Union of Zamfara State Students has debunked the recent statement made by Zamfara state governor Dauda Lawal that his administration has settled scholarship for Zamfara indigent students who are studying in various tertiary institutions.
This was made known by the President of NUZAMSS, Mubarak Musa Manager in a statement in Gusau the state capital on Tuesday.
The union described the governor’s statement as misleading and political propaganda.
“The recent interview made by the governor with BBC Hausa, when he claimed that the state government had provided financial support to students in tertiary institutions, who specifically mentioning Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Federal University Gusau and School of Nursing is untrue, misleading and political propaganda”. He said
“The NUZAMSS, as the representative body for Zamfara State students both within Nigeria and abroad, we denied the existence of such claimed scholarships by governor Dauda”. He said.
According to him, the National body of the union had reached out to local chapters in the mentioned institutions, and none of them are aware of any scholarships being disbursed.
“The students and local chapters have confirmed that they have not received any financial support as claimed by the Governor.”
The union urged the Governor to refrain from making unverified statements and calls for the withdrawal and correction of the misleading information.
“The students body is eagerly looking forward to the realization of the such scholarships considering the financial difficulties and hardship they were being facing in their respective institutions”.
