Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state said the approval by President Muhammadu Buhari to conduct National Head count scheduled for March – April, 2023 will strengthen unity, confidence and tolerance for one another among Nigerians irrespective of ethnicity, creed or sectionalism.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu stated this while addressing participants of the train-the trainers training workshop closing ceremony at the Atiku Bagudu Junior Secondary School, Birnin Kebbi.
The governor was hopeful that the exercise would be the most successful census in Nigeria with acceptable figure of the nation’s population for proper planning and fair distribution of national resources.
He commended Kebbi State Office of the National Population Commission, and the National Commissioner, Dr. Haliru Bala Jikan Daudu for engaging professionals from Universities and Polytechnics comprising computer scientists, veterinary doctors, social scientists and professors of mathematics for the training programme.
The governor further thanked the university dons for accepting to partake in the workshop to impart knowledge into the participants, preparatory to the formal head count, urging the beneficiaries to use the lessons acquired in the course of the exercise.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu gave an assurance that the Kebbi state government would provide the necessary support and mechanism for public enlightment and education of people for massive participation and success of the census.
The National Commissioner, Dr. Haliru Bala Jikan Daudu informed the governor that, the training was organized for 1,540 participants in three categories, 907 facilitators, 539 specialized workforce and 94 train-the-trainers.
In addition, over 30,000 indigene of Kebbi state would be engaged during the census in the state.
Among the trainers were Professor Aishatu Abubakar Haliru, Professor of Mathematics, Professor Abbas Yusuf Bazata, Micro Biology from Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Dr. Garba Abdullahi Kangiwa, and Sociologist from FUBK, Dr. Victoria Haruna Karatu Chief Lecturer from Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic as well as others from Umaru Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto.
The university dons who shared their experience with the Governor commended the Kebbi State Government for providing additional allowances and accommodation to them and the participants, both males and females.
The National Commissioner, Dr. Haliru Bala explained that the allowances were between N220,000 and N168,000 with additional fifty thousand naira from the Kebbi state government for each participant as well as five years rent payment from the governor of NPC office in Kebbi state.
The oath of allegiance was administered on all participants, by Barrister Abdullahi Bala Daudu Director of Complaints from NPC Kebbi Office, as part of the fulfilment of acceptance and patriotism to perform optimally.
