The livestock productivity and Resilience Support project L-PRES in Zamfara State hosted a two-day capacity building workshop on effective disease surveillance for veterinarians, para-veterinarians, and community animal health workers. The event, held at the Nigeria Army Officers Mess and Suites. aimed to improve skills in animal disease detection, reporting, and management, crucial for safeguarding both animal and public health.
The State Project Coordinator, Nasiru Mohammed. delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the importance of enhancing veterinary practices to improve livestock health and productivity in the state, he further enumerated the vital roles the project played specifically on it’s timely intervention on the reported case of Anthrax in the state. He called on the resource persons as well as the participants to ensuring the success of the training.
This was followed by insightful paper presentations from Dr. Abdullahi Shehu. Consultant at the Public Health Department, Federal Medical Center, Gusau. and Dr. Nafiu Lawal, from Usmanu Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto. Both experts provided valuable knowledge on disease surveillance techniques and public health implications.
Certificates were issued to the participants, and they commended the zamfara L-Pres project for the privilege and pledged to utilize the knowledge gained during the workshop..
