Kebbi state Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has commended primary school teachers whom he described as cradle of education.
Consequently, the governor directed for the improvement of their welfare and training while unqualified teachers would be assisted by government to attain the requisite qualification.
According to a press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was speaking in the course of monitoring the ongoing workshop for primary school teachers under the “Teaching at the Right Level, TaRL” programme conducted at the Magajin Rafi Bello Model Primary School, Birnin Kebbi.
The governor expressed happiness about the dedication of the teachers to impart knowledge into pupils, saying the government has attached importance to education as continuing process.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was further delighted that Kebbi state has taken the first position to return out of school children back to classroom under the Better Education Service Delivery for All, BESDA.
The governor talked about the commendation received by Kebbi state from the World Bank on its performance under the programme.
He informed the participants that more than fifteen thousand facilitators have been engaged by the government to teach in Qur’anic and Almajiri Schools in furtherance of integrating such schools into the formal education system.
In addition, five thousand, five hundred and forty three heads of almajiri schools would receive monthly stipend of five thousand naira each.
Senator Atiku Bagudu said in pursuit of providing most conducive environment for learning, the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, has disbursed two hundred thousand naira each to two thousand, two hundred and sixty one schools for upkeep.
The country manager of TaRL, Miss Inyang Umoren thanked the governor for promoting the development of education in Kebbi state, which made it possible to conduct the workshop through SUBEB.
Participants at the workshop told the governor that the training they received has impacted effectively into their methodology of teaching which has enabled pupils to learn fast, read and write in English.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was also the special guest at the Nigerian Economic Students Association, NESA, week of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi this Thursday.
On the occasion, Dr. Abubakar Umar Muhammad, Founder Star up, Sokoto state, delivered lecture on Entrepreneurship as remedy to Nigeria’s Unemployment, while Amina Muhammad spoke on the importance of Sex Education and Gender Based Violence, GBV.
Dr. Abubakar Umar Muhammad enlightened the audience that, although entrepreneurship required capital, potential entrepreneurs should possess self-confidence to forge ahead.
On gender based violence, Mallama Amina Muhammad advised rape victims to have the audacity to speak up and discard the notion of stigma.
She made it clear that keeping silence has been responsible for the rise in cases of rape.
In a remark, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu described the two topics under review as apt, timely and important, being discussed freely among the students.
The governor recalled an interaction he had with female university students who complained to him that schooling for girls in tertiary institutions was almost like hell, made worst by poor toilet facilities and incidence of abuses which affected their academic performance.
He said already, the law against gender based violence has come into effect in Kebbi state enacted by incumbent administration, assuring that the government would continue to serve as inspiration for a decent society.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu requested all stakeholders to make the Federal University Birnin Kebbi the most students-friendly institution in Nigeria.
The governor affirmed that the state government would continue to provide the necessary support to promote entrepreneurship in the state.
