Zamfara State took a significant step in combating drug abuse today with the Stakeholders meeting of its recently formed committee.
Hajiya Hurriya Dauda Lawal, wife of the Zamfara State Governor, chaired the meeting, which saw robust discussions and the formation of specialized sub-committees.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Emir of Anka, commissioners for health, education, women affairs, and youth and support, as well as representatives from security agencies, private sector organizations, and community-based organizations.The Director of Pharmaceutical Services served as secretary.
Huriyya Lawal emphasized the state government’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse, assuring attendees of full support and necessary resources.
She urged members to act with urgency and dedication in implementing the committee’s action plan.
Participants engaged in interactive discussions and reaffirmed their commitment to addressing the issue.
The formation of thematic sub-committees was a key outcome, with members contributing their expertise to specialized areas.
These sub-committees will be formalized into standing sub-committees for sustained action.
The committee resolved to move quickly into the operational phase, with sub-committees beginning work immediately.
Next steps include finalizing sub-committee structures and membership assignments, and developing actionable timelines and reporting frameworks.
