A passionate appeal has been made to Islamic scholars in Zamfara state to participate in commercial and business activities to be self reliant.
The appeal was made by an Islamic scholar and a retired Permanent Secretary, Malan Yusuf Abdullahi Talata Mafara in a special lecture titled, ” Shariah implementation in zamfara state ( yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow).”
The lecture which was organized by the Zamfara state security initiatives project and held at Taula Academy hall bypass road Gusau.
Malan Yusuf Abdullahi Talata Mafara who is a member of Zamfara Ulama Consultative Council noted that the call become imperative because it will prevent them to depend on government for their needs as well as protect their integrity.
The reknown scholar further stated that, ” learning business and commercial activities become a basic necessity to every one of us because it will helps us take care of the responsibilities of our Islamic schools without depending on government.”
During the programme, three reknown scholars have delivered different lectures. The first presenter was Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya, Malan Bello Kanwa, and Sheikh Ibn Umar Kanoma respectively.
Sheikh Ahmad Umar Kanoma who was recently appointed chairman zakkat and Endorsement board delivered a lecture on how to revive a Islamic shariah legal system in the state. He appealed to the state government to convene an emergency meeting of former governors in the state and other important stakeholders to look at the possibility of reviving the Islamic legal system and how to restore peace and tranquility in Zamfara state.
Sheikh Kanoma tressed that the initiative will tremendously assist Zamfara state and its people. He added that political differences must be avoided in order to rescue the state from the critical socio-economic problems hampering its development.
The Zakkat board chairman also advised philanthropists in the state to relentlessly give out zakkat and endowment according to the teachings of Islam for peace to return in the state.
In his lecture at the programme, Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya has enumerated the benefits and achievements of Shariah legal system since its implementation in the state. He similarly highlighted the challenges and ways of improving the shariah legal system.
He added that the implementation of shariah legal system had significantly reduced illegal activities in Zamfara.
Dr Atiku revealed that over 8,000 beer parlours were closed in addition to closure of over 1,000 brothels across the state. He stated that renumeration and salaries of Islamic judges in the state was increased from N7,000 to N30,000 to improve their performance and concentration to duty.
Sheikh Atiku Balarabe noted that introduction and of shariah legal system in the state had strengthened cooperation among different Islamic organisations in addition to the establishment of the state Consultative Council of Ulama.
Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya also advised the state government to evolve ways and means of improving
the shariah legal implementation system in zamfara state.
In his remarks at the occasion, Malan Aminu Aliyu ( modibbon Gusau) noted that shariah is a complete way of life and that reviving shariah in Zamfara state is collective responsibility of individuals in the state.
He advised people in the state to stop blaming Islamic scholars only for the setbacks suffered by the system since everyone has a role to play to make it successful. He emphasized that, ” we individuals must improve our faith and contribute our quarter towards development of Shariah legal implementation system at all levels.”
