From Abdullahi Adamu Gusau
The executive council members of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Bukkuyum local government chapter has expelled the party leader, Sala Umar.
An official letter sent to the party’s headquarters in Gusau indicated that the executive council members had on 23rd, September passed a vote of no confidence on the party chairman at a meeting attended by two third of members. The letter was signed by Nura Yusuf, Acting Secretary, Musa Muhammad, Legal Adviser and Salisu Adamu, Ward Chairman.
The members explained that the action was sequel to the chairman’s non-compliance with party guidelines including failure to convene meetings, non-attendance of State Exco Meeting, unilateral decision making and fostering disaffection and division among party members. They also cited the chairman’s inability to lead due to old age and poor health condition.
The members said their action was in accordance with party’s constitutional provision in section 59 (1) and (2). They therefore elected Abubakar Maiwake, former Organising Secretary, as the Acting party Chairman. The letter had appealed to the State Working Committee of the party to consider and affirm the decision done in the party’s interest.
