The Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill seeking to establish the Kaduna State College of Post-Basic Nursing Sciences and Midwifery in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area of the state
The passage of the bill was announced during plenary at the old chamber of the Assembly complex in Kaduna, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Henry Magaji Danjuma
The development followed the presentation of a report by the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Haruna Barnabas Danmaigona, who represents Kauru/Chawai constituency
Presenting the report, Danmaigona explained that the proposed institution was aimed at providing specialised nursing education, professional training, research and clinical development to strengthen the state’s healthcare sector
He added that the establishment of the college would improve access to accredited post-basic nursing programmes and provide a framework for delivering specialised nursing education in Kaduna State
Also speaking with journalists, the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Barrister Mahmud Lawal Ismaila, said the institution would provide opportunities for youths in the state to acquire post-basic nursing qualifications without travelling outside Kaduna State for further studies
Ismaila stressed the need to equip the proposed institution with adequate facilities and qualified personnel to ensure the delivery of quality post-basic nursing education
He said providing the necessary infrastructure and human resources would be essential to achieving the objectives for which the institution was established
The establishment of the college is expected to expand access to specialised nursing education and contribute to the development of skilled healthcare professionals in Kaduna State
