Arewa Publishers Forum of Nigeria has honoured the former Lagos state military governor daughter, Brigadier general Buba Marwa, Barrister Hajiya Mariam Marwa Abdu, the Executive Director of Women and Children Rights and Empowement Foundation, as the most outstanding gender author in the northern Nigeria.
The author of the book “In the Shadow of the Neem Tree”, a philanthropist, women and children activist, and the legal practitioner, dedicated her live for the safeguarding the vulnerable s in the society.
Barrister Mariam Marwa Abdu has presented and decorated with merits award in her Office, recently at Isah Kaita Road Unguwar Rimi Kaduna.
In his addressed while decorations with award of excellence to winner of 25/26 year, the National President Arewa Publishers Forum of Nigeria, Dr Sani Mohammad noted that, the forum have decided to honoured Barrister Mariam Marwa Abdu for her venture in the protection of women and children in the society.
And also fictionally reflects the campaign and awareness in characters contained in her written book “In The Shadow of the Neem Tree,” Through it calls on parents and guardians acting in loco parentis to reflect deeply responsibility to safeguard the wellbeing of childrem.
she however gives voice and strength to young girls; and challenges the world to confront the profound and lasting consequences of early and forced marriage, socially, psychologically, and across generations.
Mariam Abdu engages in critical work around inter-religious dialogue, mediation, community development, and justice reform, served as a consultant for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), focusing on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), COVID-19, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
In her acceptance speech, Barrister Mariam Marwa Abdu, said “initially I wrote a book purposely because for the community also just to do something different, as a lawyer and activist always looking for the society challenges.
She however argued that, females children’s have always marginalized, in the sense that would they were initially set back when born, during the stone edged they were buried.
“females children’s suffered, we have to came out with policies to protect them, especially on gender space.
While interaction with newsmen’s at the event, the husband’s of Barrister Mariam, Colonel Mohammad Abdu, has appreciated with the award given to his wife by the media practioners body, promised to collaborate during the foundation public campaigns and public awareness.
He further explained that, women’s are most vulnerable during crisis because men having capability to ran away, women at most of the time stay to protect the children that’s why involved in the casualty of the crisis.
“it’s very important to give girl child an opportunity to grow and important to the society.”
