The Wife of Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal has Friday empowered 1018 women to start their existing small scale businesses as part of two years anniversary of her husband in office .
The 1018 women were selected from the 14 Local Government Areas of the state.
The beneficiaries received a starter pack of their businesses of their choice and were given the sum of N20,000 each.
Hajiya Huriyya pointed out that the empowerment was designed to give support to 1018 women that operate different small and medium scale businesses such as; local juices, traditional dishes and vegetables trading.
She further stated that the empowerment was made to regain the hope of the vulnerable communities and boost their economic capacity to improved the livelihood of the state.
“The essence was to give you opportunity to be self reliance and contribute your quarter to the economic growth development and nation building”, She added
She called on the beneficiaries to make use of the business packages given to them judiciously for their betterment.
“Our hope is to uplift our vulnerable women through job creation in the state “, She stressed
Gracing the occasion, Governor Dauda Lawal said women empowerment was part of his government economic agenda to foster growth and development in the state.
According to him, over a decade insecurity in the state had rendered many women to become widows with growing number of orphans to cater for their livelihood and commended the office of his wife for the initiative to support women small and medium business activities.
