From our reporter
Some school principals and teachers in Zamfara state were torturing students in defiance with government’s directive on PTA, registration and other charges to be paid by parents in the state.
Investigation conducted by the Invisible INSIDER revealed how some secondary school principals and form masters in the state with impunity defied the directive by charging more than the stipulated official fees from students. Our investigation reveals how students of Government Girls Day Secondary School Samaru Gusau were subjected to severe capital punishment due to their failure to pay N400 PTA.fee instead of N200.
Some students of the school interviewed by the Invisible INSIDER disclosed how they were penalized by form masters to bring two packets of chalk and a broom as punishment for failing to attend school on official resumption date. The students also complained about the merciless lashes and grass cutting punishment given to them by the teachers because they couldn’t pay.
An aggrieved parent, Malan Salihu Yahuza, apparently disturbed by the stringent measures adopted by the school told the invisible INSIDER that his daughters were apprehensive and discouraged to attend the school due to fear. He lamented his inability to pay the PTA and imposed penalty on the students.
Our investigation further revealed that the management of Ibrahim Gusau Secondary School, Gusau had strictly complied with the government’s directive on the issue. Similarly, most of the primary schools in the state capital were appropriately complying.
Recall that the state ministry of education had early last year issued a circular to secondary and primary schools on the approved fees to be paid by parents and guardians with regards to PTA, registration and discharge certificates.
