Zamfara state commissioner for women and children affairs, Hajiya Zainab Lawal Gummi has appealed to menfolk in the state to fear God and avoid violence against women due to their vulnerability.
Hajiya Zainab Gummi made the appeal at the celebration of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence held at the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in Gusau.
The commissioner observed that due to the deterioration of the situation, there was rampant incidents of violence between husband and wife, between lovers and between father and daughter.
She pointed out that protecting women’s dignity is God’s commandment and that a man should not marry if he could not obey matrimonial rules.
In a goodwill message, a representative of HSCL ACE 3, USAID funded project and the lead implementating partner supporting HIV program in Zamfara state. Hajiya Faiza Labaran sensitize people on the importance of knowing their HIV status and ensuring linkage to care and treatment among the ones diagnosed HIV Positive to the 13 supported health facilities in Zamfara state. She stressed on people to stop stigma and discrimination among people living with HIV. And pleaded to stop violence among women and girls and to report all GBV cases to the facilities for access to care and treatment support.
The 2022 16 Days of Activism was organised by the state Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in collaboration with Health System Consults Limited-Accelerating Control of HIV Epidemics in Nigeria, Cluster 3-Zamfara (HSCL ACE‐3)
The occasion was attended by all the Directors of the State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, members of Non Governmental Organizations and important personalities.
